(b. 1960, Canada) Colin Upton was born in Winnipeg, but spent most of his childhood in West Vancouver. He was one of the most notable artists of the Canadian small-press movement between 1985 to 1988. He published dozens of mini-comics, many of which portrayed his encounters with Vancouver street people and other marginal characters. In 1990, he released the autobiographical comic 'Big Thing', that was soon picked up by Fantagraphics Books. When Fantagraphics cancelled the titles after four issues, Upton returned to mini-comics and continued to do an occasional story for anthologies. In 1995 Upton began 'Buddha on the Road', an anti-religious adventure epic of which six issues appeared.
